2025 Ram 1500 REV vs 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning: Which Electric Truck Should You Buy?

2025 Ram 1500 REV vs 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning

If you’ve been waiting for a serious electric truck that can haul, tow, and still look and feel like a real truck, 2025 might finally deliver what you’ve been hoping for.

Ram’s all-new 1500 REV is stepping onto the stage with big promises — long range, real towing muscle, and classic pickup looks. Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 Lightning is already proven, already selling, and still one of the best all-around electric trucks you can buy.

Both are full-size electric pickups. Both are serious about work and play. But they take slightly different paths to get there.

Here’s how the 2025 Ram 1500 REV and the Ford F-150 Lightning compare — and which one might fit your life better.

Design and First Impressions

One thing Ram understood right away is that truck buyers don’t want their pickup looking like a spaceship.

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV looks like a Ram should.

It’s tough, bold, and muscular. The front end has a futuristic twist with its sleek LED headlights and closed-off grille, but the rest of the truck keeps the traditional proportions and tough attitude buyers expect.

The Ford F-150 Lightning doesn’t stray far either.

It looks almost exactly like the gas-powered F-150 at a glance. Only the light bar across the nose and a few aero tweaks give away that it’s electric. Ford knew better than to mess with the basic F-150 formula too much.

Both trucks play it smart: they look like real trucks first, futuristic tech machines second.

If you want a slightly more traditional design with a touch of futuristic edge, the Ram might catch your eye.
If you like the familiar, proven F-150 look, the Lightning still hits hard.

Power, Range, and Performance

This is where things get serious.

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV brings big numbers.

The standard version comes with a 168-kWh battery good for about 350 miles of range. An optional gigantic 229-kWh battery will stretch that to 500 miles of range — by far the most of any electric truck announced so far.

Power numbers are big too: around 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Ram claims 0–60 mph in around 4.4 seconds, which is crazy fast for a full-size truck.

The Ford F-150 Lightning isn’t slow either.

With the extended-range battery, the Lightning makes 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. It hits 0–60 mph in about 4 seconds flat.

Range on the Lightning is a little less exciting — 320 miles with the extended battery, about 240 miles with the standard battery.

Both trucks are insanely quick for their size.
Ram leads on maximum range. Ford still leads on instant torque.

Towing and Payload

Truck owners care about numbers here, and both deliver.

The Ram 1500 REV will tow up to 14,000 pounds and haul around 2,700 pounds in the bed. Those are real, work-ready numbers, not just for show.

The Ford F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds and haul about 2,000 pounds depending on configuration.

Realistically, both trucks can handle serious trailers, boats, work equipment, and weekend toys. But the Ram edges ahead if you need to tow the absolute maximum.

One thing to remember: towing heavy loads will cut range dramatically on either truck, so plan accordingly.

Charging Speeds

Nobody wants to spend all day at a charger.

The Ram 1500 REV promises 800-volt architecture on higher trims, allowing it to add up to 110 miles of range in just 10 minutes at a DC fast charger.

The Ford F-150 Lightning uses a 400-volt system. It’s still quick but not quite as fast — expect to get about 54 miles of range in 10 minutes at the right charger.

If you road trip a lot or tow long distances, Ram’s faster charging could save real time.

Interior and Technology

Both trucks offer high-tech, spacious interiors packed with features.

The Ram 1500 REV brings a fully digital experience inside.

There’s a massive 14.5-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an optional 10.25-inch screen for the passenger, and real luxury touches like premium leather, real wood, and a huge panoramic sunroof.

It feels upscale, modern, and ready to compete with luxury SUVs.

The Ford F-150 Lightning sticks with Ford’s proven setup.

You get a 12-inch or optional 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen running Ford’s Sync 4A system. The cabin feels familiar and tough, with lots of smart storage and durable materials that still feel good to touch.

Ram feels slightly more upscale and high-tech.
Ford feels more work-truck practical but still comfortable.

Real-World Use: Work and Play

How these trucks fit your life matters more than spec sheets.

The Ram 1500 REV is designed to tow, haul, commute, and road trip with style. Its massive battery gives you freedom from frequent charging stops, and its air suspension and rear-wheel steering mean it should be shockingly easy to maneuver for such a big truck.

The Ford F-150 Lightning already proves it can do real work.

It’s perfect for city or suburban life, daily towing, Home Depot runs, and family road trips. Plus, it’s loaded with smart tricks like the Pro Power Onboard system that lets you run tools, lights, or even your house off the truck’s battery in a power outage.

If you plan to use your truck for hard work and occasional off-grid adventures, both are amazing.
If ultimate range matters most, Ram wins.
If instant torque and proven work features matter most, Ford wins.

Price and Value

Electric trucks aren’t cheap yet.

The Ram 1500 REV is expected to start around $60,000 and climb quickly past $80,000 for fully loaded versions with the big battery.

The Ford F-150 Lightning starts lower — around $50,000 — but higher trims like the Platinum can stretch past $90,000 once you add options.

Ford also qualifies for more tax credits today because it’s built in the U.S. and uses local battery materials. Ram’s eligibility is still being sorted out.

If budget matters most, Lightning wins early.
If you want longer range and newer tech, the Ram makes the case.

Ownership and Reliability

Both Ram and Ford are still writing the book on electric truck durability.

The Lightning has been on sale longer, and early feedback shows most owners love it — though some have seen range drops in cold weather.

The Ram 1500 REV is new but built on Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, specifically engineered for trucks. It should be tough, but real-world testing will tell the full story.

Either way, expect lower maintenance costs than gas trucks. No oil changes, fewer moving parts, and strong warranties.

Final Verdict

Both the 2025 Ram 1500 REV and the Ford F-150 Lightning are serious electric trucks built to work, not just to show off.

The Ram 1500 REV is the better pick if you need maximum range, serious towing capacity, ultra-fast charging, and a luxury-level interior.

It’s bold, fresh, and built to make electric trucks practical for long-haul truck owners.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the better pick if you want something proven, slightly cheaper to buy, packed with smart work features like Pro Power Onboard, and still tough enough for daily towing and hauling.

Personally, if I needed to tow cross-country and wanted the longest range possible, I’d wait for the Ram 1500 REV.
But if I needed a practical work truck today and loved the idea of backup power at home, I’d grab the Ford F-150 Lightning without hesitation.

Either way, the future of trucks looks fast, capable, and a lot more electric than ever before.
